Renew Counselling Service

At Nottingham Women’s Centre we offer affordable, in-person counselling for self-identifying women through our Renew service.

Everyone needs support at one time or another, and sometimes it’s difficult to talk to friends and family and feel really listened to. Having someone who you can trust to talk to in a safe and supportive environment can make a big difference.

We’re an autistic-friendly organisation and will do all we can to make your time with us as easy as possible. Just let us know if you’d like a quiet place to wait, or anything else to make your visit more welcoming.

What is counselling for?

Counselling can help you understand yourself and others better. It provides you with the opportunity to gain a new perspective on your situation and help you to make your own choices about the changes you want to make in your life. It can also give you the chance to learn new skills and strategies to help you deal with problems and move forward.

Women come to counselling for all different reasons. Some of those might include: stress; anxiety; depression; relationship problems; bereavement; isolation; low self esteem; anger; experiencing a traumatic event; self harm; abuse or neglect in childhood; drug or alcohol problems; health issues; and many more.

Your counsellor will respect your values and choices and encourage you to choose the focus of your counselling sessions.

Counselling at the Women’s Centre has been life changing. I feel like I have an amazing connection with my counsellor. She has listened to me without judgement and that has made me feel very safe.

More information

Click on the questions below to find out more about Renew counselling at Nottingham Women’s Centre.

If you would like to refer yourself for counselling please fill out the form further down this page, or give us a call on 0115 9411475.

We ask our clients to contribute between £10 to £40 a session, based on their income. This will be discussed and negotiated with you at your initial session, which is free of charge.

Each appointment will last 50 minutes and will be on the same day each week with the same counsellor.

We can offer both short-term and long-term counselling. The duration of your counselling will be agreed between you and your therapist based on what feels right for you.

Our service is staffed by a mixture of qualified, experienced counsellors/therapists and trainees who are in the final year of their qualification or working towards British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) accreditation.

They are DBS checked, insured and have regular clinical supervision.

Counselling is not the same as giving advice. Your counsellor will respect your values and choices and encourage you to choose the focus of your counselling sessions. Counselling is a completely voluntary, collaborative process that requires your motivation and active involvement.

Our counsellor will spend time really listening to you and your concerns to help you clarify your thoughts and feelings so that you can arrive at your own understanding and decisions. Depending on their training, your therapist may also suggest using art or movement work for example, everyone is different and it is important to find what feels helpful for you.

This work is funded by Nottingham City Council and the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

Counselling has enabled me to understand more about myself than I ever have before and has given me the space and comfort to start working on my past trauma.

Our Renew Counselling Service is also listed on the Counselling Directory, a nationwide database of qualified counsellors and therapists. Counselling Directory also has an advanced search tool that allows you to filter your search according to your needs and location. Or, if you’d rather receive support remotely, you can find a therapist offering online or telephone services.
