Salary: £20,747 – £22,701 pro rata

Hours:  30 Hours per week

We are looking for someone to join our team to work as part of a broader team, delivering a Big Lottery funded project which aims to:

*Provide advice and advocacy to women facing hardship and other forms of crisis, with a tailored, gender-aware approach, delivered at locations where women already engage.

*Enable women and women’s organisations to shape services and influence the external decisions that impact on their lives or operation.

*Upskill our organisations, ensuring that we all deliver the highest possible standard of advice and support to the women who most need it.

Nottingham Women’s Centre is run by women, for women and we’ve been around for nearly 50 years. We aim to help all women to gain the confidence and skills to achieve their potential and become stronger and more independent. We provide a safe and supportive environment in which women can do this, either by taking part in training or activities, getting support and services, or campaigning and becoming active in bringing about change.

Welcome to our new Trustees

At the recent AGM, which took place on the 26th June, NWC members elected 6 new Trustees. Each woman brings valuable experience and expertise, as well as a passion for our community. We are delighted to have them on board. Please find out more information about your new trustees below:

Diana Ali

As an artist, international curator, arts educator and creative mentor it has been a mission and a passion to bring different fragments of cultures, sectors, ideas and people together. Diana’s work forms the basis for people to bring forward their ideas in a universal language, which is the visual form of art. We are in a society of divides and increasingly we are all guilty of looking after our own. Diana has had opportunities of working with the arts within business sectors, in religious venues, in formal and non-formal education and with the Institute of Mental Health. She believes that through art we can merge divides and blur lines where we can listen and collaborate with fellow humans who have the same ideas but through different outcomes.

Katy Dunne

Katy has fifteen years’ experience of working within the public sector in Nottingham,  including working in community safety, and with domestic and sexual violence and mental health  services. She is used to working with a varied cross section of partners and the public and forming strong and productive partnerships. Katy is passionate about enabling women to achieve their full potential and supporting local communities.

 

Zaqia Ghafoor

Zaqia qualified as Mental Health Social Worker in 1999 and has worked in Community Mental Health Teams for 15 years. She is currently a Mental Health Advisor at Nottingham University, providing information, support and guidance to students with mental health difficulties. Prior to her social work training she volunteered at NWC for 12 months, working in the reception area, which was an invaluable experience. She feels honoured and privileged to serve as a potential trustee and looks forward to working alongside dedicated women, who provide a safe environment at NWC, for women to gain access to support and services, or campaigning and becoming active in bringing about positive changes to their lives.

 

Deborah Gordon-Brown

Deborah  was born in the North East in 1964 where she stayed until she started University and, subsequently, her career in law. She started practising as a solicitor in London following qualification in 1989 and subsequently moved to Nottingham in 1995. She continues to practice as a real estate solicitor and is a Partner in a national law firm. She was married to Nick in 1990 and has 3 children aged between 24 and 14 (2 sons and 1 daughter).

As an individual, mother and business manager she is passionate about diversity, inclusion and fairness. She sits on the gender equality group in her law firm and has been responsible for enhancing and promoting the role of women in the firm through listening, mentoring and policy establishment. She is a senior member of the firms CR (corporate responsibility) champions group ensuring the firm is fully engaged as a good citizen supporting the local communities where the firms has offices and more widely. Her firm has been proud of their relationship with Nottingham Women’s Centre over the last 2 years.

In her personal life, she has committed significant time to helping others in my role as an FA welfare officer and through her work with a number of charities including WalktheWalk . She is committed to ensuring that her children grow up with strong values and are dedicated to supporting and helping others.

She is committed to work with the Centre and aims to bring her drive, ambition and values to her role as a Trustee.

 

Melanie Jeffs

Currently the Library Director at Bromley House Library, Melanie has spent most of her working life working in the charitable sector, including spending 6 years as the Manager of Nottingham Women’s Centre. She is used to  managing large budgets and reading financial reports, which is why she has put herself forward for the role of Treasurer.

She has also worked in a women’s prison and feels that she has a good understanding of the challenges facing women, and the organisations that support them. She hopes that she can use her skills and knowledge to support the Centre – something that has remained close to her heart since she left.

 

Rebecca Langton

Rebecca works as the Executive Officer to the Leader of Nottingham City Council, where she provides advice and support to politicians setting the agenda for the city. Rebecca manages a team of staff who provide councillors with a range of support, from managing complex casework to research and policy development. Rebecca was previously the Deputy Manager of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum, where she led, amongst other projects, the advice services provided by the Forum and the Syrian  Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme.  Rebecca is excited to be a part of the work of the Women’s Centre.
