Legal Advice Clinic
November 28 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
One event on 28th November 2018 at 12:00pm
The Legal Advice Clinic is back. They are a wonderful group of students who are supervised by the Senior Supervising Solicitor at Nottingham Trent University Law School. Appointments can be booked by contacting reception on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0115 9411475.
Last academic year the clinic covered housing queries, welfare rights, and debt. As we are a women’s centre, often the students are asked about matters arising concerning family law. This is not something the students can necessarily support with however, there is a Family Solicitor/Lecturer who is very passionate about giving back to the community and askes the students to triage for her and then she will give the advice needed. This has worked so well in the past that we are going ahead with the same format this year.
The Legal Advice Centre have been a huge support to the welfare rights service here. They are always available to discuss some of the trickier benefit cases and provide our women with legal representation at benefit appeal tribunals. This involves writing submissions for our clients and attending tribunal hearings with our clients to help them to get the best possible outcome and the benefits they are entitled to. All of this takes a considerable amount of anxiety out of the whole process for the women we work with, while also helping to alleviate some of the pressure from the welfare rights workload.
They are a pleasure to work with and a huge asset to the services we provide at the centre. Please feel free to approach them in the welcome space if you have any queries.
Further dates to be confirmed.
