Communities of Identity

What is Communities of Identity project about?

Nottingham Women’s Centre is funded by Nottingham City Council to lead a local consortium of organisations delivering services to women and LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) communities. This work takes two forms – our own provision of core support services to women, and the provision of funding and support to other women’s organisations and those working with LGBT communities. The funding enables us to keep our ‘open door’ at the Centre, to maintain a regular programme of training courses, advice and support for volunteering.

How is CoI supporting local communities?

The project supports 4 priority areas:

  • Support for Isolated LGBT+ Individuals
  • Safe Space for Women and Girls
  • Complementing mainstream mental health services for women
  • Empowerment of women and girls

We are proud to report that through our work and the work of our partners, last year (2017-2018) CoI has enabled us to provide the following:

  • Over 1600 LGBT+ people receiving direct support. With over 10 thousand accessing virtual space online.
  • 1500 women accessing specialist (Women only) space
  • 112 women receiving counselling – specialist and general
  • 1079 women accessing 121 support around hardship and crisis. With 109 women supported to access grants
  • 489 women taking part in group sessions
  • 99 women supported into volunteering
  • Women’s and LGBT+ people issues represented at 35 forums
  • 9 forums held for women’s groups and issues with 45 different organisations attending, including the Women’s Organisations Network established and co-ordinated by Nottingham Women’s Centre
  • 14 women’s and LGBT+ organisations supported to access grants
