Guilt, Shame and the Road to Freedom Group Therapy

Learn how to control unhealthy feelings through group therapy sessions

Guilt:  a feeling of worry or unhappiness that you have because you have done something wrong – Cambridge Dictionary

For those who would like to experience counselling as part of a group, we offer informal group therapy sessions.

As women, we sometimes feel excessive or unneeded feelings of guilt and shame. Life is not perfect and we sometimes blame ourselves, but sometimes these feelings are not ours to carry. These feelings can make us feel stuck, unable to tell people how we honestly feel, for fear of upsetting or affecting them.

In these sessions, we will explore how we can be kinder to ourselves, resolve unwanted emotions and move forward. We will be asking:

  • How do we move past feelings of guilt
  • What does guilt look like and how does this hold us back
  • How we learn to say No without fear
  • What it is like to constantly feel this way
  • How does shame make us feel stuck

Meet the Team – Kerry

Hi, my name’s Kerry and I’m a Caseworker in the Changes Team. I currently work 30 hours over five days. I only joined Nottingham Women’s Centre in May this year and am still in my Probationary Period until next month.  I’m going to take it as a good sign that I’ve been asked to participate in Meet the Team, hopefully, I’ve got the job!

Working at NWC has been something that I wanted to do for such a long time and until six months ago it looked like it was just a dream as schedules and jobs didn’t align, but here I am!

Working here makes me proud; I am able to say that I am part of an amazing organisation that offers support, encouragement, growth, knowledge and empowerment to all of our Service Users, Volunteers and colleagues and it is a passion that is shared.

When I’m not at work, I love reading, listening to music (mainly 80’s hairbands) and baking.
