Misogyny Hate Crime Workshop at The Nottingham Emmanuel School

schools misogyny event

On Monday 17th July, we were invited by Nottingham Citizens to a Hate Crime Action hosted by one of their partner organisations, The Nottingham Emmanuel School. The event was attended by over 80 pupils from Emmanuel, Ellis Guilford, Bluecoat Academy and Farnborough Academy, alongside representatives from both the City and County Councils and Nottinghamshire Police.

With Claire Dixon from our partners Equation, Holly and Andrea presented a workshop to staff, students and visitors: Holly gave a brief introduction to the history of misogyny hate crime in Nottinghamshire, before Claire hosted a fun quiz centred around some eye-opening statistics on children’s experiences of sexual harassment in schools. The workshop included a video of Rosemary, a young woman who very kindly shared her own experiences of reporting a misogyny hate crime incident to police. Andrea gave details about ground breaking work being done at Nottingham Free School to tackle misogynistic behaviour and also explained how to report incidents to Nottinghamshire Police. Finally, everyone completed a pledge card, confirming what they will do in the future to help tackle misogyny hate crime.

We’d like to say a big thank you to all the young people who attended – we were so impressed by you and your wonderful pledges!
